Today, Spellbook is officially expanding to support the entire in-house legal market with the launch of Playbooks.
Thousands of law firms use Spellbook for contract review and drafting every day. This past year, we’ve worked with over 160 in-house teams at enterprises, including companies like Nestlé, Fender, Crocs, BDO Unibank, and WSP Global Consulting, identifying challenges and opportunities. We found that in-house teams were wasting time reviewing the same types of contracts over and over using the same standards. Existing AI contract review solutions gave them too much variability when they wanted personalized, consistent results to support a high volume of deals.
As a result, we created Playbooks to enable legal teams to codify their negotiation approach so that AI can negotiate documents the same way their GC would, using preferred language and fallback positions. In-house legal teams can now manage large volumes of high-stakes contracts where precision and efficiency are critical. Playbooks helps them tackle their review queue up to 10x faster.
Our law firm customers also use Playbooks to develop gold standards across client contract reviews based on their specific needs.
Playbooks reflects our broader mission to build the “electric bicycle for transactional lawyers”. We’re keeping lawyers at the steering wheel, but helping them go further when they pedal–eliminating drudgery, but ensuring that human judgement stays in the loop.
Here’s how Playbooks work:
Rules are at the core of Playbooks: instructions about what should be permitted in a contract. When you run a playbook, your rules will either pass or fail.
Additionally, you can provide fallback language that Spellbook can suggest.
Playbooks will surface both AI-generated solutions and your preferred language to fix issues with your standards compliance:
Additionally, Playbooks enables you to set a list of pre-set questions which will be automatically answered, with citations, when you run the playbook. This enables Playbooks to reliably surface all the facts you care about, instantly.
Playbooks comes out of the box with 12 common rule sets, but you can easily build your own from scratch, or using AI.
Need to archive your review results, or share them with a team member? Export will allow you to export a clean PDF showing which rules are passing and the answers to your questions.
Playbooks is live today for all Spellbook customers. If you’ve not tried Spellbook yet, sign up for a 7-day free trial.
We’ll also offer Playbooks-focused sessions in our group trainings over the coming weeks.
